Henley - Ladies Section

Welcome to the Ladies of Henley.

I should like to formally wish you a very warm welcome to Henley G & C C. I hope you enjoy your time with us and take part in the social and competitive activities we organise on your behalf.

Things you should know:

Handicap

If you are joining us from another club and have a current handicap, please provide the handicap secretary (Sue Redfern) with a copy of your handicap certificate and preferably a copy of your playing record for the past 12 months which can be obtained from your previous club.

If you are new to golf and have never held a handicap you will need to submit 3 cards to allow calculation of your first handicap. These cards must be marked and signed by a member with a valid handicap and marked “for handicap purposes only”

As our club currently runs the  Club 2000 handicapping system we recommend that you join HowDidIDo which can be accessed via the URL http://www.howdidido.co.uk From here details of how you have fared in competitions and any handicap changes made can be viewed

Web Site

The members have their own dedicated web site area for news and information, which can be accessed via the URL http://www.henleygcc.co.uk/index.php/golf

We are delighted to have been chosen as the “Home of the PGA Midland Region”.  This is a real honour for our club and it is a reflection of not only the quality of the facilities we offer, but also of the friendly welcoming atmosphere that awaits you.

The Ladies Section prides itself on its open friendly atmosphere and seeks to encourage new members to join us on Wednesday and or Saturday mornings for a full range of qualifying and social golfing competitions.

We also arrange each month a Ladies Social Evening with a wide variety of topics, guest speakers etc. followed by a meal.  In the summer we may play a few holes on the Par 3 course or hold a golf clinic prior to the meal.  E-mail notifications of these events are sent to all members and sign up sheets are placed on the Ladies Locker room noticeboards giving full details and menu choices. These events are an excellent way of getting to know “the Henley Ladies” so do please try to join us.

For those new to the game of golf, members will be happy to show you round the course and help with the marking of cards for general or handicap purposes.

I hope that you will be very happy at Henley and will come to enjoy all that we have to offer here both in terms of the golf available and clubhouse facilities but most importantly the special Henley friendly atmosphere.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of assistance - my details are in the Club Diary and I look forward to getting to know you over the coming months.

Kindest Regards,

Gill Clayton

THE CAPTAINS CHARITY 2011 / 12

Whizz-Kidz  is focused on raising awareness of the importance of mobility for disabled children.

It is a sad fact that today there are still 70,000 children who have their mobility needs unmet. Although Whizz-Kidz is able to reach 1,000 young people per year, the number continues to rise.

All children should have the chance to be something special…a kid. But there are still disabled children in the UK who are waiting for the right wheelchair, a wheelchair that will mean they can get up to all the things that kids like to do. And that’s where Whizz-Kidz comes in. We give disabled kids the equipment, support and life skills they need to be just like any other kid.

We also provide a wheelchair skills training programme, for young wheelchair users up to the age of 18. This is one of the ways we offer sustained support to young disabled people on their life journey. Wheelchair skills training furthers young people’s independence by teaching them how to get the most from their wheelchair, be safe when out and about and in turn have more fun! It is open to both Whizz-Kidz beneficiaries and those that received their equipment from elsewhere.

Our primary aim is to raise funds to continue the vital research to raise brain tumour survival rates from 15% up to 80%

Research has always been at the core of our charity objectives as we strive to increase survival rates and improve the quality of treatment that brain tumour sufferers face on a day to day basis. We pride ourselves on the strength and impact of the research that we funded over the years

The principal aim of our research is to improve the survival rate of children with Brain tumours whilst reducing the toxicity and late effects of treatment through improved understanding of tumour biology. This research is taking place at Nottingham University

We feel it is our responsibility to improve awareness amongst the public, government and health professionals.

Unfortunately brain tumours are still a forgotten disease. The facts are stark:

The five year survival rate is currently 15%

More children and adults under 40 in the UK die of brain cancer than any other cancer.

Brain tumours can affect anyone, at any time, regardless of genetic background or lifestyle
